Maa AIDS Awareness Program (MAAP)

   

MAAP Program:

  • Based in Kajiado District, Kenya.

  • Local NGO, founded in 1995 and registered as an NGO in 1996.

  • The fundamental goal is to reduce the spread of HIV/AIDS.

  • Address issues that pre-dispose the community to high rates of HIV.

  • Address the technical aspects of HIV/AIDS such as behavior change.

  • Build capacity for the community to participate in their own development.

  • Teach that HIV/AIDS problem is socio-cultural.

  • And also a health problem.

  • Handle the problem using participatory approaches.

  • Empower the community as a whole to address these problems.

 

Vision

MAAP’s vision is that of a community empowered to identify and address its social, economic and other needs, while preserving its cultural identity.

Mission Statement

MAAP will achieve this vision through working with strategic partners and stakeholders to realize community empowerment, ownership of interventions and through mobilization of available resources for development.

MAAP recognizes that: -

  1. Commitment, Trust, Transparency, accountability, cooperation, acceptance, respect for each other's ideas, and a shared vision are critical for effective team work throughout the organization.

  2. As an indigenous NGO, MAA-P is best placed to effectively reach the community at all levels and localities.

  3. Communities deserve to be fully involved, adequately informed and their capabilities build so they can effectively participate in determining a better future and sustainable livelihood for themselves.

  4. Eradicating STI/HIV/AIDS is only one measure in reducing community suffering and poverty. A holistic approach to sustainable development is indispensable.

  5. Diverse skills are needed for building and running an effective organization and field programmes that address various community needs.
